I'm after making a home made chicken kebab, the best part of them is the damn chilli sauce. Any ideas what I might purchase to get remotely close to a chilli tomato sauce?
The one from Harvester is also very good. *shudders at the thought of eating there again*
All Tesco online throws up is Thai chilli sauce.

Do you mean a spicy ketchup type of sauce or a chilli tomato sauce like you get on pasta arrabiata?
Like a spicy tomato-y salad dressing. I dont think the pasta style. This is usually very liquid-y and smooth.Kebeb shops offer it as chilli sauce, harvester offer it as the same. I'm half tempted to nick a big pot from harvester!
Make your own.

S & P
Sweat down till soft.
Add Tin/s of Chopped Tomatoes
(depending how much you are making)
Simmer down for 10 minutes
Puree, with a Hand Blender or in a machine.
Return to heat and simmer to thicken.
Add - Chilli powder, Sugar, Tabasco, Ketchup, season to taste
Can be frozen, stored for a few days in the fridge.
Used as a pour over, dip or addition to dishes.
Same ingredients can be used to make a Salsa type sauce, without the Blending.

I can make this with what I've got, I'll try it first. Thanks. In a pan:

Careful.. It can be a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing.. Initial Tomato flavours with a sweet tase, followed by the Chilli Bite..I have made this on many occasions, adding different ingredients along the way..
Roasted Peppers and fresh tomatoes.
A dash of Cream
Various spices to change the taste profile
A slug of Alcohol, Brandy, Whiskey, Glayva
Lemon, Limes
Just about anything thats in the cupboard..
Good Luck.
Along the lines of 'takeaway kebab house' chilli sauce I'd say you can't really go wrong with Bridgdavs recipe. That is pretty much how I do mine, but I use a tiny dash of cream in mine at the end. Just cook it all down, blend to a passata consistency, and add more chilli/salt/pepper as required to taste. Sugar is also an essential ingredient. Chill before serving too.
The thing is that this is will be miles miles better than any ropey old takeaway sauce too as it is an allrounder sauce, offering flavours, texture and heat, not just just a cheap chilli kick for pissheads.
As for people recommending chilli tomato sauce, shame on you. Totally different flavour, consistency and taste to what we you are after for kebabs.

1 Large onion finely chopped
4 Cloves garlic finely sliced
3 Teaspoons Mint Sauce
50ml Distilled Vinegar
Fresh Chillies (quantity to taste)

I've tried this sauce before, and I think the mint sauce makes the authentic kebab shop chilli sauce. Try this one.Kebab Shop Chilli Sauce:
