Wing Yip or other Kent based Asian supermarket.
Discussion
Predominantly a Chinese based supermarket. What are my chances of getting 1kg of ghee from there?
The Greenwich one.
If not anywhere in Kent where I can source some tonight (after 5pm).
I'm in Medway, was thinking Gillingham but maybe by the time I've sourced a shop I could pretty much be in Greenwich.

You want to go to an Asian store (Wing Yip is more South East Asian, and Ghee / butter isn't used much in their cooking, but a big store probably will have it). All will have Ghee, as it is used in sub continent cooking. Comes in a metal tin usually.
But I have seen it in Tescos (2x 500g for £3 at the moment) if they have a World Foods section, so the big stores. Sainsbury's, in the Posh ingredients section, so again the bigger stores. And in Morrisons if they have an asian food section.

I don't know about the Greenwich one but the Croydon Wing Yip certainly sells ghee in almost any quantity you want up to 40gal drums. The Greenwich one.

Tesco et al would be the worst place to buy ghee. Just find an Indian supermarket. Make sure you buy butter ghee not vegetable ghee. Ktc is a popular brand as is east end
Err, why? They don't sell some dodgy own brand, they stock the same brands as you will find in your local Indian grocer. Some places it is cheaper, some places more expensive (my local asian grocer usually is cheaper than the supermarkets). But as it has a long shelf life (remember, they made it to keep butter from spoiling in tropical climates before refrigeration was developed), so I wouldn't worry if they bought pallets of the stuff at a time.Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
