Deal Restaurants
Discussion
I'm not sure if there is any good restaurants in Deal.
The pub about 100m from the A2 / A258 roundabout on the A258 was not too bad a while ago I seem to recall. There is another good pub a few miles away but I have forgotten the name or town, I'd be able to find it driving around though .. which obviously does not help.
Regards
Andy
PS Have you ever been to Deal before?

Its a 40 minute drive OP, but if you want simple but truly stunning local food try here: http://www.thesportsmanseasalter.co.uk/
The tasting menu is only served midweek (don't know if that is a problem for you) but you'll get some amazing food. Chef Steve Harris recently won the Good Food Guide best chef award, -and its the best food I've ever eaten.
They make their own sea salt, churn their own butter, cure their own ham, bake amazing bread, grow their own herbs and veg, and then cook it with enough flair to get a Michelin Star. And all from a run down looking pub which looks like this:

Don't try to upset me I've just booked a cottage.
Although I was raised in Kent (Hayes) we always went elsewhere for outings/holidays etc so never seen that area of kent.
Now I live in the Midlands I feel the need/desire to visit. Belive it or not I have visited Hampshire and Dorset more times "than you can you shake a stick at" (quote Mark Twain)

Chard, I live in Whitstable, Kent, but was brought up in West Wales with beautiful coastline and seaside villages.
In all honesty I prefer East Kent. If you look for chavs, new build estates and bad commuter traffic you'll find them/it. But if you look for quaint atmosphere, big skies and a bit of Roman/Napoleonic/WW2 history -you'll find that too. There's something about Deal & Walmer which feels like the Anglo/French border -despite the Channel.
I'm not the local tourist board by the way.
Don't expect some kind of South East Riviera, but enjoy it for what it is and sample a few village pubs inland. -I love it here.

Difficult to get in sometimes (they only do 12 or so covers) but Wheelers, on the high street http://www.seewhitstable.com/Wheelers-Whitstable-R... is the place to aim for -for seafood.
There are 3-4 other places close to the beach which are seafood based, notably the Oyster fishery restaurant http://www.oysterfishery.co.uk/ -but its very London day tripper market based and despite the lovely surroundings I've never been impressed with the food. -That's not to say you wouldn't get a perfectly good meal there today...
If I couldn't get in at Wheelers I'd probably walk 3-4 mins along the road to Williams and Brown Tapas http://www.thetapas.co.uk/, or I'd give the new 'Saltmarsh restaurant a go -back into town.
For more ideas, see here for a nice, recent write up of the best local food stops: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/foodandwineholid...
ETA -even if you can't get into Wheelers they sell beautiful crab tarts and little fish pies which are amazing (I sometimes cheat and serve a slice of the crab tart as a starter when I'm cooking for people).

We have a Hotel (The Bell) in Sandwich with good nosh, if you want to eat let me know.
In Deal 81 Beach Street is fine, if you try The Court Yard http://www.thecourtyarddeal.com let me know what you think I havent been there, Dunckerleys is old fashioned but good food.
There is a nice pub in Barfeston called the Yew Tree, lovely little place, Ben has got a decent list and the food consistantly good, book in advance a 15/20 minute drive from Deal.
The East Coast of Kent is hugely underated and has excellent Weather, whilst the rest of the country had rain through out the summer we had glorious sunshine and high temps, loads of nice places to visit, fantastic Beaches near Broadstairs, Joss Bay etc, World Class Golf Courses, not much traffic so getting around isnt a chore. There is places to avoid like any area but I like it and having lived pretty much everywhere in the UK this is the nicest place to live.
If you are there for two days hop on the train (5 minutes) and walk around Sandwich very cute town.
