Which marmite?

Hi,

My name's James and I'm addicted to Marmite and on occasion, Vegemite. This is the current state of my desk where I keep myself stocked with various Marmite products:



This was a couple of weeks ago:



I have got, somewhere, a limited edition Marmite & Guinness but I didn't get hold of the Marmite and Champagne when it was released unfortunately.

Am I the only one with this fixation? And am I the only one that layers it on thicker than road tar?

And which is your favourite?

Standard Marmite for me. I had a big jar of the Champagne one which was nice, but by the time we got through it I was looking forward to the normal one again. I've got a jar of the Marston's but haven't opened it yet.

Marston's is nice - but not Marmite-y enough....

I've got a jar of the Marstons one unopened, and TBH it sort of seems a bit of a shame to open it.

I've tried the standard Marmite, the Guinness Marmite and the Marston's Pedigree Marmite. Of the three, I prefer the Marston's one. The jar's novel as well.

TBH I am not that fussed. While on occasions I may really fancy some marmite on some hot buttery toast, I can live without it for months quite easily.

For me it is just Asda Yeast Extract. A jar will last years.

I liked the Guinness one a lot. Had to chuck a completely unopened one when it went time-expired because I was over-stocked, which was a pity.

I haven't tried the other 'specials' yet though.

I've said it before but I'll say it again, marmite and eggs are a match made in heaven. Scrambled or poached eggs on marmite toast is what I'd probably have for my last meal....

Me mum bought me a tub of the champagne marmite a good while back.

Tried it once, its an extreme case of marmite, not sure it was actually edible. Will have to give it another go though, maybe its an acquired taste?

You do know that all Guinness Marmite is 'Best Before' either Aug '08 or Sept '08, don't you? I don't know how long it takes to go off, but over a year is pushing it a bit isn't it? That's why I threw my unopened one out recently.
