I can't claim this is remotely authentic...

Sweat some onions til golden then add a couple of chopped garlic cloves. After a few minutes take that out and put to one side then turn the heat up and fry off the button mushrooms and then the stewing steak that's been dusted in seasoned flour in batches. Return to the pan with enough wine to cover and some rosemary, thyme and a bay leaf. Bring it to the boil then chuck it in a low oven with a lid on for a few hours.

Ideally you want to cook it the day before you eat itlick

I don't do measuring.

Thanks for the inspiration Lefty.

Just been out and got the ingredients with 30 mins to spare before shop shut for the weekend. Going to cook this tomorrow afternoon.

Really looking forward to it especially after watching Julie and Julia

I've had a pot in the oven for 4 hours this afternoon.

Will be heating it up for sunday dinner tomorrow. I pinched a bit of beef before going out tonight and it was fking lovely!
