Well it's one of the main causes of acid rain (via sulpher being burned as an impurity in fossil fuels). I think it gets used a fair bit in the food industry though, both as a preservative and for sterilising equipment.

Its used widely as a preservative in the food industry. It is why when you open a sealed box of meat from a supermarket the first smell you get can be a bit like the meat is off.

Can you make a jar, label a jar, transport a jar, and put that jar on a shelf, for 4p? Let alone fill it with product?

A loss-leader perhaps? I'm sure it won't be the only thing in his trolley.

Discussion on the 4p curry sauce here. I've still got some jars in my cupboard.

Sulpher dioxide is also known as preservative #220, and is found in pretty much every bottle of wine you buy. How bad can it be?

Here in NZ at least, the lable always says "Contains preservatives (220)" or something similar. I suppose the fact it contains grapes is a given, and there are laws against adding sugar or other nasties.

can they make a jar of curry for 4p? The question is more, can you make a glass jar for 4p? The answer simply is no ... you can't.

Additves aside, the chemical composition of wine is so incredibly complex that you'd simply get a list of very long organic molecules that you'd never heard of, and so would be none the wiser!
