I suppose it saves on washing up, the chips could be done at the same time.

Yes, but you'll need the oil on reasonably cool, so 150 - 160 will be OK, just to make sure it gets cooked through before the outside burns.

Be careful of the extra moisture making it spit, too.

So cook chips and burgers sperately

ok

which should I cook first?

(i.e. go from 190 degrees and chips to 160 degrees and burgers, or vice versa?)

Heat oil to 160

Add chips and burger

Fry for 5 mins, until chips just colour
Make sure burger doesn't burn - take it out if it looks done

Remove chips, heat oil to 220
Once at 220, re-immerse chips for 1 min to colour and crisp up

Done [/gordonramsey]

nono The burger wasn't in batter, so not Weejie.

And a cheap catering burger, deep fried in batter is one of the finest things ever when you're utterly stfaced and it's 2am.

My favourite "Western Scottish" delicacy is deep fried pizza.

THAT is how to do things.

Try a scrunchie (cheapest of the cheap frozen pizza, battered and fried), you can feel the grease moving around your circulatory system.

And, I know that I'm opening up a huge can of worms, it has to have east coast chippy sauce on it, none of your manky Glesca vinegar wink
