Home made Christmas cake

Her Ladyship cooked our cake today. Very nice. Kitchen filled with delicious aromas for hours. When it came out of the oven it had bulged up in the middle slightly, so naturally it had to be trimmed flat for eventual application of a thick layer of marzipan, and a thin layer of icing.

I LOVE Christmas cake trimmings, especially when they are just very slightly burned at the edges

Smelling nice here too as one in the oven at the moment,what is it about this aroma that is so good.I find it keeps nice and even if you make a slight well in the centre with the back of a spoon

I'll bear that in mind for next year, but I do so love those trimmings, so I may forget that advice accidentally on purpose.
