cocktails in a cafetiere: do this.
Discussion
A barman friend of mine gave me a tip which i tried out on Friday night. Many "stirred" cocktails like Manhattans or Martinis are absolutely perfect made....in a cafetiere.
just make the drink, add ice, stir for a couple of minutes, then put the top on, plunge, and pour.
I tried it with Manhattans for a party on Friday and the results were f*cking brilliant. Try it, your newfound bartenders skills will suprise yourself as much as your friends. No mess, either.
Monkey Manhattan:
prep:
Take a potato peeler to an orange. Peel four strips from the orange. Take two of the strips and cut into quarters. leave the other two for a garnish.
Chill two martini glasses in the freezer.
Pour into the cafetiere (makes two):
100ml Monkey Shoulder Whisky
50ml Martini Rosso / any sweet vermouth
20ml Cointreau / Gran marnier / any triple sec you have
two dashes angostura bitters
the chopped orange peel
fill the cafetiere 3/4 up with ice, and start stirring with a metal spoon. do this for a minute at least, nearer two if you want it a bit less strong.
plunge, and pour into the iced martini glasses. add the orange twists.
enjoy a manhattan as good as a bar's
