I went on the weekend, my expectations were very high but they were surpassed.
Service, food, everything was 1st class.

Please feel free not to answer the question but I'd love to know what it set you back.

My Mrs is currently racking up brownie points at a phenomenal rate. One day I'd like to say thanks and the Fat Duck followed by a short taxi ride to nice nearby hotel would hit the spot I reckon.

I'm thinking of taking my wife to that Little Chef he did the menu for.

Tight fisted Northerner Andy

PS In all seriousness was it hard to get a booking, or did the problems he have with that virus outbreak mean this is easier than thought?

The menu is on their website and it's very detailed in the costs, Don. From memory it is £125 per head for the 16-course tasting menu, which sounds like amazing value to me. Plus wine is I think £50 extra pp. But it's all on the website though and very easy to follow through.

if you do the tasting menu and the wine list which goes with it, make sure you have somewhere local to stay - you won't be driving back

I'm aching to go back, it is very good indeed

I've seen a lot about the Fat Duck and I'm curious as to whether it all tastes nice.

I'm sure the service is superb and I'm sure the quality and preparation of the ingredients is second to none.

But I can't see snail porridge and all that tasting any good?

Feel free to tell me otherwise. I also realise that they do normal food aswell as the 'weird' stuff...

I think the price of the tasting menu (which is the only menu available now) is going up to £150 per head from sometime in Janunary. If you want the cheese course that is also extra (something like £15 a head).

I wouldn't count on getting much change from £500, even if you don't delve too far into the wine list (and you can spend a huge amount more if you do) but as an experience, it is definitely worth a go.

However, if you fancy a more traditional, romantic dinner, £500 will get you dinner for two and a room for the night at the Waterside Inn round the corner from the Fat Duck.

I'll have a look. Thanks for that.

Not been to the Fat Duck, but I have taken the Mrs to the Waterside Inn as she didn't fancy the Fat Duck.

The food there was epic, and as it was her birthday they gifted her a signed copy of the Roux brothers cook book, as Michel happened to be in there that day cooking with Alain. A lovely end to the meal.

Service and food was staggering, a truly unforgettable meal.

Oi!
Wimmin-folk read this you know.

Most are happy with a monthly biryani or korma - don't you go giving them ideas.
Expensive ideas at that!

I have to say the wife and I enjoyed when we went for a nice long lunch about 2 years ago.

I would warn people who have not been before though: if eat you at alot of top/swish places, often you might not be as blown away as you'd hoped.

When I went my expectations were sky high and although the meal was lovely, I left feeling a bit disappointed. I think this is because I'd (due to one thing and another) eaten at alot of 'those type of places' leading up to the day at the Fat Duck.

But as I say, it is very good and I would go back.

Good to hear.

Up until now, since I haven't been to the Fat Duck, the best meal/service/evening I think I've had was, sadly, some time ago at the Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath. It was a warm, beautiful August evening, we were staying and so could tumble upstairs when done, and the food and the service were impeccable. Better than pricier places I've stayed, frankly, although it wasn't exactly inexpensive!

A happy memory.

They signed a book of their father's? Or did Michel and Alain write a book together if so I wasn't aware of that.

We did Fat Duck and Waterside in a weekend and you can't really compare them. Both are totally brilliant but in different ways.

Not sure I'd go for the matched wine again - I'd rather have a good bottle than lots of glasses you have to keep swigging to keep up.

We stayed at a place called Redroofs nr Maidenhead but Windsor isn't far either.

Michel & Albert Roux opened Le Gavroche and then The Waterside Inn, Michel Jnr is Albert's son and now runs Le Gavroche - not sure who Alain is?

How did you manage to get reservations at both on the same weekend?
