Any recommendations?

Something not available at Amazon, John Lewis etc. preferred, needs to look like I've thought about it wink There must be some obscure, but quality manufacturers out there in the kitchens of PH.

Budget ~£200, which probably limits the choices somewhat.

Can't fault the current Gaggia Dose.

Previously had a Gaggia Evolution, that was used every day for three years!

You'll struggle to get something for £200 that isn't mainstream and therefore at John Lewis and Amazon.

Pavoni and Elektra are fabulous, but much more expensive, have a browse at this site though as they have a range:

I've got a massive expensive flash looking Gaggia that was about £500 and a moka.

The Gaggia rarely gets turned on.

Fairtrade Italian Blend from Co-op in cafetiere beats anything else I've ever tried.

Try beans that have been roasted that week, then grind them yourself immediately before making coffee in a stove top espresso maker.

Knocks the socks off anything stewed in a cafetiere.

If you are only making one cup, try in cup filters. This is how Monmouth brew up their coffee (great coffee place in covent garden).

You can buy nice ceramic filter cones here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Coffee-Filter-Cone/dp/B002...

I used to get my coffee ground on a weekly basis - it's fine, best when really fresh but who wants to grind each time? Flatmate used to but we ended up with coffee everywhere!

Krups, no question. A dual Espresso / filter jar type. Got mine on ebay from a factory / returns old stock seller. Item was absolutely perfect, still in original box, all instructions, full 12 month guarantee. I paid £35.00 list is £169.99. Absolutely the best thing I have ever purchased on ebay and I've got 350 transactions. Like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Krups-Expert-Combi-Coffee-Ma...
