A friend has been recommended this to alleviate gout. (Apparently it does work.)

The only reason I am posting it here is because the stuff is very, very nice. I love cherry-flavoured anything, but this drink is simply delicious. From Waitrose in the long life juice section.

Awesome with vodka. cloud9

Me too, lovely stuff. Will buy one today (Cherry Pie), i feel.

Nearest Waitrose store is almost 10 miles away from me, a bit too far to travel atm. I'll have a look for the said juice drink in a week's time or so.

Cherry juice is great for keeping gout at bay. However - I have found weight loss and healthy eating far better. I used to get gout really badly once or twice a year. Having changed my diet and lost a load of fat I have not had an attack for over 2 years now.

Changing to a 'gout friendly' diet is not that easy (or exciting). When you say you changed your diet, do you mean changed the food, or eating habits?

I've been pinned down again by the latest attack. Right foot: big toe. I've spent a long time looking at the high, medium and low risk lists of high / low purine / gout friendly food, but some of it isn't that clear as some sites contradict others.

Currently on Colchicine and anti-inflams + gallons of water + hundreds of loo breaks.

Basically I eat everything in moderation, but highish purine stuff obviously in extreme moderation - maybe once a month (lobster, crab etc). I never eat the really bad stuff like liver. However I think it's more a case of eating less crap (fatty stuff) and eating more good stuff (vegetables) which, along with exercise, means less weight for my joints to carry. I used to suffer really bad attacks (last one was both feet and both knees and lasted 2 weeks) but have had maybe one twinge in the last 2 years which I got rid of with lots of water drinking over 24 hours (and tons of loo breaks like you) and it never stopped me doing anything it was so light. I stopped drinking beer for about 3 years which I am convinced helped too (brewers yeast is not good) although since getting to a healthy weight I do drink beer every now and again with no issues.

I feel for you because I know just how bad the pain is. Hope it goes soon.

I had really bad gout last year, was on crutches for about a month to six weeks, but really bad from late Jan to May or June, it just kept swapping ankles then onto the wrist, then back...

Dr put me on Allopurinol, they don't like to apparently as it's expensive to prescribe (someone tipped me off on this and the Dr confirmed) - since I've been on it I have had no attacks, not a twinge. I only realise now how often I was getting it, my old GP told me it was arthritis and I just believed him and put up with it.

Glassman I really feel for you, I would recommend the Allopurinol.

I did find the Cherrygood helpful though to get back on topic, and it tastes good.

Thanks - I'll give it a go (if I can get over some of the listed side effects!)

Side effects? What side effects?

Although tbh being able to walk and descend the stairs without shuffling down on my arse outweigh most things I can think of...
