Very brief question chaps.

I've cooked far too much chicken jalfrezi tonight, and as I'm eating elsewhere tomorrow I wondered if it will last until Monday evening if refrigerated?

I'm not sure of the longevity of cooked/ chilled chicken, so thank you in advance.

I reckon so mate, I cook up chicken throughout the week and leave it in the fridge for snacking purposes, I usually do a fresh batch each three days smile

Yeah I have done that many a time. In fact, tastes better imo when left.

It should be fine but if you are worried just stick it in the freezer.

If it was cooked thoroughly to begin with and reheated to piping hot you should be ok.

Shameful admission here: I've reheated curry after a good 3 days and been fine.

My Uncle who suffers with depression cooks a stew on a Sunday and leaves it on the cooker top in a pan all week. He heats it up, plates a portion, remains go cold. Repeat. Until Wednesday whrre he will add more pre-cooked meat until the sauce runs out.

yikes

He also does not get cross-over, as in wiping a plate with raw fish on it with a tea towel and then using the same to dry the pots.

He's never had any food-related illness apart from being a male mental!

You'll be fine.

In short, and un-pc; just have a sniff. Thats how we did it in yesteryear, if it smells funky, it's off. If it smells ok, then you're good.

Too many herms swear by best before ages. I promise they are an utter load of litigious nonsense. Smell it and trust your senses. You'll be fine.

My mum has stuff in her cupboards from the 90s but she won't throw them away. In the medical cupboard are tablets dating from the 90s too. I went to make a curry round their house and she had some "Safeways" curry powder from 1988 - vintage!! She says there is nothing wrong with them.

A yogurt in our home, was never eaten until there was clear liquid on the top. But we never had any tummy upsets. My brother, who still lives at home, gets a dodgy tummy now again but its only from when he eats round his girlfriends house. I think I must have an iron gut from my food intake as a child.

As mentioned, I always just do a sniff test, smells ok, then I will eat it.

Yes, it'll be fine for Monday evening.

It will keep (wrapped or covered), in the fridge for about 3 days (I never keep it longer than that).

If you put it in the fridge, it should be ok for 5-7 days, depending on your level of risk aversion. With food, if it smells ok, it probably is ok.

It won't hurt you. But it won't taste as it should either- spices go stale far more quickly than that. I'd replace it.

Sounds like my Dad's garage shelves. Full of 'useful stuff'. Until you needed something, couldn't find it, and had to go buy them. The human capacity for simple 'daftness' seems limitless.
