Has anyone heard of it? Tasted it? Used it?

Sounds intruiging!

Well I presume we all taste it all the time. Apparently it has been accepted as one of the basic tastes in Japan and far east for a long time, the real news is that we in the west have just started to acknowledge it.

The saucy stuff is just a marketing gimmick.

Nothing new under the sun: anchovies, soy sauce, Parmesan cheese, seaweed and mushrooms (among other things) all have this flavour characteristic.

They extract MSG from seaweed commercially in Japan apparently.

MSG doesn't actually taste of anything.

It just make savoury things "taste" more.
