You may have noticed that an occasional village pub that you've passed has closed or has a for sale or let sign up

Unfortunately it's not a rare occurrence and unless something is done about it it will become even more frequent and not just the dusty old or badly run pubs that may not interest some

Have a look at Back The Pub

Use 'em or lose 'em

My local for years (well, between the age of 15 and about 20) was part of a compulsory buy/offer you really can't refuse a good few years back and turned into a shopping centre. Sad as I spent more time there then I did at school/home!

Now all we have locally is a Harvester full of the local moron chavs, a Brewers Droop with a crap carvery and an overpriced bar and a small bar at the local swimming baths....

I miss a local full of local faces who all get on no matter the age gaps, a landlord who trusts you to pour your own pint and leave the money on the till, a one stop hub where you can guarantee you'll bump into someone you know at any hour and somewhere you can actually get comfortable and treat like home.

There are still pubs around that cover most or all of your points but not nearly as many as there should be that's why we need to keep as many good ones as we can

i support my local (the Anchor in Guisbrough) on a very regular basis, usually 3 or 4 times a week.

it would pain me to think it was going to be shut down, so thats one of the reasons i keep going.

really good cause this one, i will leave the country if all the proper pubs go and we end up with yates's and chain pubs everywhere.

^ aye, that.

And after you smell the cellar, you're faced with a chalkboard listing about 10 varying ales from independant breweries, and a hand-pulled real cider. Much like the one mrs k & I frequent:

I see from the link they have a Back The Pub link too so no doubt you're already signed up

We're at that part of the country in September visiting a few pubs on the Beer Bus weekend away and may well have a little tour of the area and Wales in the Midget again before then

Indeed, but as said the nearest 'proper' pub to me is a car drive, so it will never be a local than I can walk into and fall out of sadly.
