Gaucho or Sophie's.

Sophie's is good and very reasonably priced imo.

Quite like the look of The Hawksmoor.

My fave is Pope's Eye

I can't recommend Gaucho (Sloane) I'm afraid. Overpriced, the basic steak price is as stated but absolutely everything else is extra. £4.75 for a (small) mixed leaf salad. £2.50 for a sauce, FFS.

My steak arrived barely warm. I like steak rare, but this had evidently just been taken out of the fridge before being grilled. It was cold in the middle.

I could have done far better myself given access to the same quality of ingredients.

One to avoid.

Agreed. Every time I've been someone at the table has had a pretty poor time of it. Last two, it was me. A shame.

I went to Gaucho near Liverpool Street Station - The complete opposite of the above except for price

The Putney one or the other?

Fancy a steak night, and I was told to look at this chain before.

I went to the one near Earl's Court. It was so good my 'desert' was an 8oz steak. I cannot say that of anywhere else I've ever been.

Went to Maze Grill (sweary chap's place) a year ago and the food and service were brilliant.

Range of food was good (i.e. not just steaks) and the choice of steaks would suit most budgets.

Gaucho is an overpriced PR fest with mediocre (at best) steaks. All of their meat is wet aged; say no more.

Gaucho is fine, but Hawksmoor is the one.

Forever getting mixed up between Commercial St and Commercial Rd.

Is Commercial St the one with St John on it?

St John Bread & Wine, yes. (St John is on St John Street)
