Can anyone recommend a very good restaurant in Central London - budget probably up to £100 for two people (2 courses plus drinks)?

Preferably Italian, French or Modern European....

So far I have considered Clos Maggiore in Covent Garden and Il Portico in Kensington.

Would be my suggestion. Lovely little place.

Ramsay's on Royal Hospital Road is fantastic too, and more intimate than his other offerings. Liked it very much.

Have you considered making a w/e of it? Somewhere like Le Manoir? Or perhaps the Waterside or Fat Duck?

No biggrin

In which case, OP will struggle at those places, even Clos if wine is wanted etc smile

Feck it, push the boat out fella. I reckon your first anniversary is key. You can then back off until you reach (NB speaking as one who isn't yet married!!).

Maze is still a favourite here. Just about within your budget. There is plenty of choice, though.

Had my first anniversary at Petrus. Stunning. about 5x budget though.

You'll struggle for £100.

Clos is wonderful! Went there for my 10th Anniversary - had the tasting menu with a nice bottle of not too expensive vino! Tasting menu without wine is £55 per head so you would be looking nearer £140.00 - BUT it is really worth it - fantastic place. Wifey loved it as well and a good night was had by all hehe

Yep. Good seafood for the OP's budget.

Cheers all...

I would say budget is set to just make me feel prudent - pretty sure the reality on the night will be to up that to £150 wink

Will have a look at the suggestions so far.

If it's more a "guide", then Clos is a very strong recommendation (I also did the tasting menu).

Ramsey's too, but that'll be nearer the 200 mark with a bottle of vino (tasting menu is/was something like 70 quid).

Both are very much worth it.

Clos looks like the main contender to me having checked the menus (fussy wife!).

Cheers for the recommendation!

Not exaclty intimate, but I think you could do far worse than either Bocca di Lupo (sp?) or Barra Fina, both of which offer some of the best dining experience I have sampled. Really great nights out.

Failing that, L'escargot offers good value for a 1 star (I think?).

As long as he orders a foot long to share, and not two six inchers. Otherwise he might come back and start a thread about it.
