I know in the great scheme of things it really isn't important, but if I wanted f***ing cheese I'd have said!!

Has anyone, ever in the history of the universe said "Oh yeah, cheese. I forgot about the cheese. Yes please give me cheese as I'd totally forgotten."

Its a deliberate effort to make you re-assess your purchase process in the hope that once in the store you decide you'd like more than you originally came in for.

When Maccas first introduced "would you like fries with that?", it added a collosal amount to the bottom line virtually overnight.

"Whopper meal please"

"Is that a large?"

"No it's not a large, if I'd wanted a large I'd have asked for a large whopper meal. No I don't want cheese, onion rings or a salad. What I DO want is for the salad to stay inside the burger and not end up wearing most of it, and for the bun not to disintigate into a mayonnaise soaked mess, leaving my hands covered in sauce, crumbs and bits of lettuce, looking like those of a toddler with his first spoon."
