Has anyone done this? My garden is full of huge snails at the moment. I have never eaten snails before but maybe willing to give it a try if they taste good.

yeah you need to purge them first- several days in a clean box with just lettuce leafs and then another couple of days starving them- otherwise they will be gritty and full of crud. pretty close to the ones you get in france then- dont overcook them....

on one hand I'm thinking, what a great idea I must give this a go.. I've had snails in france a couple of times before and IIRC they werent bad.

on the other, I'm thinking, vomit at the purging etc....

It's fine. There isn't that much mess, but I do clean them out every day. Obviously one hates doing the 'dastardly deed' - or at least I do - but they're going to a better place.

I have a feeling the French snails you get grilled in garlic butter must be farmed, since the wild ones are notably chewier and have a more earthy flavour. Personally I prefer these stewed, though I don't see why you couldn't cook them long and low in the shell, and then grill them at the end.

Throw them into boiling water. 'Full' instructions are in the link I posted.

Included pics & advice on purging the snails to get rid of toxicity.
