For her Birthday, I'd like to get my mother a year's membership to a wine club, where by she'll be sent bottles of wine (ideally French) regularly for the whole year. Most of the clubs I've looked at don't really operate like that and aren't ideal as gifts. Any recommendations for what I'm looking for?

I'm part of the Vigin Wine Discovery club, get sent a case every quarter, pretty good wine and pretty good value

Join the Wine Society which is a hugely respected wine co-operative which repeatedly wins the mail order wine supplier of the year.

Their Wine Without Fuss scheme will deliver a case as often as you want, either chosen by them or by your custom options. The case includes tasting notes as I recall.

Membership is a share of the co-operative and costs £40 for life (and then to whoever you will it to), of which £10 is knocked off your first order. You get a huge catalogue every season, and the choice to do things like en-primeur and tastings.

Good spot. Thanks for that.

Dear Gad Westy,

+1 (as I believe the internet vernacular has it) for the Wine Soc.

If you want the minimum of fuss they offer a Wine Without, er, Fuss service which replicates some of the semi-random choice but regular delivery of wine. I think they even base the choice on preferences you have supplied.

I prefer to take the time to choose the wines myself but perhaps I need to get out more smile

regards,
Jet

Another vote for The Wine Society. The 'Wines Without Fuss' has different case price levels, and can be all one colour (red or white) or mixed. The Society is also pretty good at helping you pick a case, so if you (for example) wanted only French reds, then they should be able to help you put together a case. Since I moved to the US, I have missed my monthly delivery....

A vote for 'not the Sunday Times wine club' from me - they're really rather annoying!
