Big Easy on the Kings Road

following on from my bbq rib confession on the super tasty thread, has anyone with an opinion been to the big easy on the kings road?

a friend went there last night and said it was utterly st, waited 30 mins for 1st round of drinks, forgot their side orders, ordered 2round of drinks and after waiting 20mins finished mains, left cash for what they had on the table and walked out.

It's the sort of place where you go for an office Christmas party, where you want to get lashed and aren't too bothered about the food.

Things like hot wings and ribs are almost impossible to balls up, since I'm sure places like this buy these in ready-cooked and just defrost/reheat them.

As mentioned, service can be slow.

i couldn't disagree with the ribs bit more. i went to bodeans at tower hill a couple of months ago, and the ribs were bloody awful yet they are lauded by some. i've had badly cooked bbq ribs in plenty of other places too.

not after 3 star dining here, and know what to expect of the 'crab shack' experience.

i'm interested in what the food's like.

Its appalling. Bodeans still aint great...but it its cordon bleu compared to that place.

why cant anyone sell decent Murrican BBQ food in the UK?!?

Inspired by a particular episode of Jamie's America, and by some threads on here, I've been experimenting this summer with my own rib, pork & brisket cooking on the Weber, with some great results.

I've also just picked up the book "America's Best BBQ" by Ardie & Davis and Chef Paul Kirk in Waterstones. I can't believe we don't have anything like this over here. The BBQ tradition, adn the care and time put into what is essentially working class cooking is astounding. We are seriously missing something in this country... (although not if you come round mine late on a Saturday PM, when you will find me happy and full, surrounded by rib bones!)

Went there on a 'date' last year, and managed to cover myself in BBQ sauce, much to my companion's disgust. In my defence, I had smashed a fair few cocktails before we were even shown to our seats.

It's OK grub to be frank, but not fantastic - and not exactly a bargain either.
I seem to recall us getting a 'Happy Hour' drink promo because we arrived before 7, but I would probably double-check that one.

By the way - is this the same place that used to be Henry J Beans? That place is/was rubbish too..

I went into Bodeans this week in Soho.

My God. I never knew something could be so disgusting and delicious at the same time.

I'll be going back.

It really depends what you are looking for on an evening out, I frequent there now and again and even though the food isn’t fantastic (the £50 sharing platter is a huge let down) if you fancy a good evening with live music (downstairs - Thursdays) then just go for one of their special offers and a few beers it isn’t all that bad, I enjoyed my Fajitas there though did have to ask for chilies on the side!
