French oddness

Now I may be way off the mark, but I assumed that Dauphinoise spuds were of French origin. That being the case,why is it inordinately difficult to acquire cream in surrender-monkey land? Even the locals admit it's hard to come by in fresh form and in anything other than thimble-sized pots. Perhaps I should hasten to the nearest farm and negotiate.

In better news, I have located a Sauvignon Blanc for €2.40 which is emminently coiffable and actually noticeably better than anything one could procure for a fiver in La Sainsbury's.

Ah yes, I do of course mean quaffable. Too much quaffing.

We've just got back from France and the MIL out there made a courgette gratin with milk and ricotta! Sacre bleu!

They sell it at our little Marche U but like with most French dairy stuff, it's UHT So not found in the fridge. Being in Normandy though we do get amazing fresh 'creme cur' which sort of makes up for it.
