In here or in TV, mmmmm. Here I think as the discussion will be about food rather than TV.
Did anyone watch the program last night?
Two interesting looking places, I think the Bristol venue was more interesting from my POV, but they did need accurate feedback from front of house or to explain what each dish is as per the Fat Duck.
In both example it wasn't the cooking that was in question, but I guess the hard job was made harder in the tests he did.
The program itself, much better than some of the Kitchen series as little or no previously/coming up next.

Watched it with interest as I visited Cassamia a few weeks ago. The food was absolutley exceptional (comparing with similar experiences/establishments I'd rate it more than Maze).
When we were there, the waitress did provide a brief explanation of the dish but it could have benefited from a slightly more detailed one.
In terms of cost, I think I'm right in saying that they have recently increased the cost of the tasting menu and whilst it still offers good value for money it has pushed it into a bracket where it (for me) is now a very very special occasion establishment rather than somewhere I'd visit a number of times a year.

I was lead to believe that the explaining dishes thing came from the Michelin guide rating system. I can't comment on other establishments, but certainly the staff at The Grosvenor in Chester gave a detailed description of each course, and that was a 1 star restaurant. They also served the best martinis I've ever tasted by-the-by.
But this series does look interesting.
I was a little disappointed that the Sicilian lad lost, as his dishes looked and sounded more authentically Italian, and seemed to possess more passion for his food. I suspect he was sunk by his maitre d' than anything else.

I've eaten at Casamia (the Bristol restaurant) twice, both times in the year before it was awarded it's Michelin Star. Until I went to the Fat Duck, I thought the meals I had at Casamia - both times - we're the best, tastiest meals I had ever eaten. I was blown away, and the service was also fantastic.
I was surprised about the service on this show, as it was faultless when we were there, and I'm really picky about the way a customer is treated.
Glad it fared well eventually - along with Bells Diner, head and shoulders above anywhere else in Bristol.
