Let's suppose you know you are going to be alone on a desert island for an indefinite period of time, and the only thing you get to eat is whatever you nominate here. You do NOT have to consider health in this, it can be anything you want. It could be a mixture, a complete plateful of something, but you have to eat it all.

So, what's the one thing you could eat whenever you were hungry?

For me it would be cheddar cheese (Cathedral Cheddar) with a little bit of butter , on pain rustique rolls (ideally Waitrose version, slightly undercooked). I considered cheeseburgers, but decided against.

Biltong.

I could eat that morning, noon and night given half the chance.

Great desert island food since it wouldn't go off, either.

My favourite comfort food, could eat it forever: Pasta shells, the cheaper the better. A pound of sausages, decent ones. Thick cut bacon. Loads of grated cheddar. Cut it all up, bung it in the oven until the cheese goes brown and the pasta goes crispy on top. Utter stodgy filth but also totally divine.

With health not being an issue, then without any shadow of a doubt I'd take properly made fresh pizza.

My wife's lovely home-made dough rolled out as thinly as it possibly can be without breaking.... Tomato sauce with red onions, garlic & herbs simmered at a rate of one bubble per 5 minutes for many hours... a selection of cheeses... a drizzle of chilli oil... nothing else. Perfect. cloud9

Obviously I would need someone to point me in the direction of a desert island with a suitable wood-burning pizza oven. smile

I think there could be a new TV programme here: 'Desert Island Plates'

(and just in case any TV bod is looking for a new TV series and just about to go for 'Police Catch Joyriders But Then Let Them Off', it's my idea!)
