Easy Friday poll.

Would be interesting to know why your favourite is your favourite. Is it simple proximity to your daily route, coffee taste, food, ambience etc.

Starbucks for me, or at least when I was working in London. Mainly because they do a gingerbread latte coming up to christmas which I love.

I voted Costa. Starbucks coffee tastes horrible. Cafe Nero coffee is fine but they pack the tables in the coffee shop too tightly together.

I prefer the taste of Costa’s coffee, but find that most of the big chains vary enormously – seems to me they don’t clean their machines properly and you get that horrible bitter taste.

Typically I’ll go for the small independents...

Whichever I happen to be passing at the time - if I'm paying that much for coffee, I buy mocha and it tastes just as good wherever it comes from thumbup

Cracking little indy in Winchester, looks like a newsagent from outside apart from a few tables. Head inside and the bloke who owns it is a jolly Italian fella, always lots of Italians in there, and loads of excellent deli stuff from Italy for sale. Makes some divine sandwiches too, although I always get berated if I want my coffee to take away...

Do you mind me asking whereabouts that is Ollie?

Don't go in to town often, but would be handy to know.

Caffe Italia in Northampton, a little bit of Italy in centre of town, we rarely get to go in there as it's always so busy, think they have about 4 indoor tables and 4 outside, we get a 'Bonjourno' and a 'Prego', with less than £2 for a proper italian coffee, the deli is super too smile

To elaborate on the original request a bit, I prefer my local independent because of the ambience and being away from the train station means it's a little less busy (mostly local residents visiting). If you feel like some food it doesn't have to be removed from a packet first. The staff know my order and will bring it to me, none of this queueing and waiting for people to pay for a £2 coffee with their bank card. Although it's proximity to my home helps, before it opened I used to ride my bike out of my way to get to the next best shop, further away than the chains.

The coffee at some of the chains can be as good (aside from the ridiculous variations, see 2 posts up), but the sterile chain store atmosphere takes away some of the enjoyment of relaxing with a coffee and a newspaper.

Ollie's place sounds great smile

Eggnog latte is also available at Christmas...can't wait!

In the last 2 years, I might have paid for 2 or 3 coffees at Starbucks, but I've easily had over a hundred. I wouldn't pay those prices! wink

Ohh yes!! Although I don't think there is a Starbucks here on the island. Will have to wait until I visit the parents to get one.

scratchchin Do you buy the Starbucks ground coffee and make your own? Or work there/for them?

Starbucks when out & about. Every time I've tried the others, I've not enjoyed them at all. Starbucks was the first of the breed I tried so there's an element of conditioning in there.
