London Restaurant for a Special Occasion

Would you credit it? Damn search is down...
It's Mrs. Scruff's 30th in a month or so and I'd like to take her out for a decent meal; in this case it has to be on a Friday lunchtime.
Budget isn't an issue but there's loads to choose from and I'm a bit out of my depth. Been looking at Gordon @ Claridge's, Le Gavroche, The Landau...
Help! We're pretty flexible on cuisine, though wife doesn't tend to eat meat (fish is ok) and I don't tend to eat fish (meat is ok)... Any suggestions?

Gordon @ Royal Hospital Road would be my choice.
Claridges is not as good as it used to be (didn't it lose its star?) La Gavroche is very good and an institution, I did a review recently as I took the Mrs there for her 40th. How about Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley or Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester? When is the birthday Heston is opening a place in the Mandarin Oriental in December.
Most places will do a tasting menu and you can switch courses out if you don't like something.
Edit - Oooh a month. Book it now the top places will already be booked up most likely, although you might get lucky with a lunchtime booking.

Terrible website crawling with typos. Whatever the enterprise, that puts me off. Fish - J Sheekey.
Steak - Search function is your friend. Although the usual suspects crop up with bu66er all fish anywhere near the menu.
Special occasion, L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon. All sorts!
Or 'Surf and Turf' at Christophers?
Or a total banker for a Friday lunchtime - Wolseley!!!
Far too much choice I am afraid in town. Thought of asking her?
Good Luck

Thanks for all the suggestions... I can't ask her as it's a birthday treat; bizarre as it sounds we have 'rules' around birthdays.
Ended up at Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley. Who'd have thought it would be such a pain getting through to these people!
You actually got through?
