Instant Coffee

Usually I drink my freshly ground coffee at work/home.

I'm just wondering if there is any instant coffee that compares to fresh coffee? The reason I'm asking is that sometime at home I can't be bothered to go through all the kerfuffle of making a brew with the fresh stuff. (Plus i'm in a hotel and want a decent morning brew now I'm sans caffetierre!)

Agreed, Blend 37 is the best instant coffee I've come across, it doesn't compare but is an acceptable instant brew IMO.

Get a pack of one cup filters, very 80's but better than instant

If you want something that makes a quick coffee, you need a George Clooney (aka Nespresso).

It's not quite instant (takes about 30 seconds), and it's quite pricey to buy initially but it makes great coffee, it's fresh and tastes superb.

Entranced by the dream of delicious fresh coffee I tried a fancy £300 Gaggia coffee-making bean-grinding jobbie. What I hadn't realised was that it only made two microscopic cups and blocked up at regular intervals. Happy to flog it on eBay and now stick with Douwe Egberts.

So the answer is no. No Foul freeze dried coffee excuse is comparable to real coffee.

I'll just have to buy a nice box of tea bags until I can bring my grinder & caffetierre/cup combo flask with me!

100%. Instant coffee doesnt even smell like coffee, they have to add the aroma afterwards and it goes as soon as you open the jar...

The only one that I find passable is Carte Noire.

The best instant coffee I've found is Gran Aram from Lidl, also very similar to the Dark roast or full roast from Sainsburys and Tescos.

It's not real, but it's a lot better than any of the instants that have big advertising budgets.

If you can't get your hands on a cup of real coffee, this is the most 'uninstant' tasting instant coffee I've found yet. I get mine in Morrisons.

As it's been said already, there is no instant coffee that compares.

I have one of those (the caffetiere mug!) sliced bread has nothing on it!

Attempted a cup of Kenco "coffee" tonight. that went down the sink.

The coffee bar thing in the uni appears the grind coffee then produces (hitchhikers guide style!) something that almost like but completely unlike coffee!

I'll have to grin & bear it for a week until I bring my tin of coffee!

Any stir-in instant coffee is utterly revolting. Truly disgusting stuff.

The only reason I can fathom that people drink it is simply because they've never tried real coffee, plus I think it's also a very British thing.

I just take a small caffetierre and a sealable plastic box of my own coffee with me to hotels. Essential equipment.

I second that.
I'm the only one in the house who drinks coffe and I hate the instant stuff (I take it black with no sugar).
Very impressed with the Nespresso solution but it gets expensive for large volumes. Their after sales service is excellent.

those little sachets that starbucks do are better than any of the freeze dried rubbish. It is actually coffee bean ground extremely fine, so that is disperses in the water.

it is a bit dear though!
