How much does dinner for two cost at your typical local restaurant?
I`m not tight and I certainly like my food and I`m not one for the "set menu", but the cost of eating out here has got to be a bit of a joke. We went out to a Malaysian restaurant last night and while the food and the wine were excellent the bill was €180, the obligitory tip takes it to €200. Maybe I am getting old, but €200 for a 3 course meal is a bit steep.

Did you not look at the prices on the menu outside the restaurant before making the decision to eat there? How much did the wine come to? Personally speaking I'd say that £40-60 is a reasonable amount for two people without alcohol and £80-120 for a decent place with alcohol ...

Alternatively, there is always KFC - A tenner should do! wink

There is no point looking at the menu outside, all decent restaurants are similarly priced. Wine was €50ish. We seem to have lost the run of ourselves over here, recession or no recession. I was just hoping for a comparison with typical UK prices.
Dont get me started on the price of a pint.

How much food do you eat at Pizza Hut between two!? wink

£40-60 is easily achievable at somewhere such as Zizzi's or a local, family owned restaurant ... I did state without alcohol at a reasonably good restaurant.

Kudos

What?? Where the hell are you going? I know very few places in Belfast (apart from Deanes) were 3 courses for two comes to €200 (or is that £200?)

Unless are you in Dublin somewhere?

4 of us with wine, 2 courses in "local" restaurant (Botanic) last week was only £105.

Normally £50 to £60 for 2, plenty of good offers on at present

You can pay as much or less as you want.

If the main course is more than £20 I expect something special. If it costs more than £20, sides are extra and it's in Doncaster then I'm out, other areas such as City's I'll accept more.

Hard to know what you mean by typical. £30 per head including wine is achievable even for a decent restaurant in central London, the chains maybe £20, and no upper limit if you want stars, Michelin or TV.

I don't think that's too far out to be honest. The last few times we've been out our bill has been between £30 and £50 without drinks for 2. There's hardly anywhere in Newcastle that you'd spend much more than that. The last time I ate at (supposedly) one of the best restaurants in town it came to £70 for two without drinks.

A curry, just main course with rice and a beer in the Netherlands is 25Euros.

Most places seem to charge a similar amount but have now found a place doing decent greek food where two courses and a beer is only 15.

Don't, ever, eat in a place doing standard Dutch fair, they seem to have as much idea about food as the average Britsh pun in the 1970s

Lately any meals we have been for have included a 2 to 3 course, plus a bottle of wine and come in at around the £80/100 mark.

I sound like a right sad b***rd BUT - I don't tend to like eating in a restaurant because I can cook the steak and chips myself better than I tend to get when eating out.... I prefer to get a nice takeaway and sit down in the comfort of my own home..........

BUT, local prices would be about £50-60 for a 2-3 course meal for two without booze.

Go to Akbars. Fabulous curry in 8 locations I think. Will cost around £50 for the works including nice pud and coffee. Plenty of decent places are cheaper too. Butchers Arms in Priors Hardwicke, very traditional country dining, £30 sunday lunch which equates to less than £100 with a glass of wine, silver service, log fire, great atmosphere. Or dare I say, Harvester, £4.99 including salad! I know many will mock but great value. So I can't endorse that it is pricey too eat out.

Blimey, I though Belfast was supposed to be a bit of a dive, I'm rather impressed a lot of the restaurants can get away with charging you so much.

I can get away with paying as little as £25 for 2 if I use a voucher for somewhere like Zizzi but you get what you pay for at most of these chain restaurants. I don't really like paying much more then £50 a head unless theres loads of booze involved.

My local which is one starred is charging £60 a head for a 3 course menu designed for the Bocouse d'Or. Each course is accompanied by a matched glass of wine.

So, 3 courses in a Mich. starred place with wine for £120, add in coffee its £130 + £15 tip so £145 all in.
