Discussion
Never been a rum drinker but was persuaded to try a "premium" rum on holiday on the States in the summer over a whisky (my regular after dinner tipple) on the basis that i should try something new.
I did and was pleasantly surprised but can't remember the name of the rum. I have since bought a bottle of Pyrat which I am enjoying as an occasional drink but it is not the rum I had in the States and, while excellent, is not as good.
So can anyone recommend me some decent rum so that I can try to locate this brand (I would probably recognise the name if mentioned).
Thanks all

I heard there are 2 types of Sailor Jerry; the usual and one with lime or vanilla or something. Anyone tried the other or know if my mate was talking bks? I can't find anything about it.

Trick with Sailor Jerry is a quarter wedge of lime, softly squeezed into 50ml measure, and a dash of vanilla essence, brings the old days back! Or for the whole bottle, 2 x vanilla pods and about 2 weeks waiting.
For Sailor Jerry fans. You do know the recipe changed and is now rank IMO. I have about 2 measures of the good stuff left

As above I have made it my mission to find a replacement so ordered a bottle of Lambs Spiced Rum (not to be confused with Lambs Navy Rum). This is a proper spiced rum with cinnamon and vanilla being the main body with a nice spicy aftertaste. 8/10 Rum.

i don't get the fascination with sailor jerry, it's horrible and the previous recipe wasn't great either.
if you want the sailor jerry taste, mix a cuba libre using a light caribbean rum and tesco almond coke.
pyrat xo is lovely stuff. i don't find 1919 to be that great for its age, though i do like appletons 12y.o. mount gay is great for mixing, as is myers which has a darker molasses taste.
