a question of port
Discussion
port is my christmas day drink of choice. that is, after morning sherries and champagne starters, I'll despatch a bottle with dinner and another between after dinner brandies and evening whisky
for the last couple of years I've had the benefit of the local pub cellar and my parents stock of fonseca, but I'm told I have to supply my own this time around due to my appetite for the stuff and a propensity to guard the bottle like a rottweiler with a fresh bone.
any recommendations? sub 20quid a bottle preferred, vintage, and available from the supermarkets as my local area is appalling for all things foodie.
eta. something light may be better for the meal, with a fuller bottle for afters.

I enjoy port, but a whole bottle with dinner?
Port used to be served by the pint and if memory serves me correct there are still pubs in the city of london that do.
I am the same, put a bottle of Port in front of me and it is mine all mine ! i would of course be a bit more respectful to a nice vintage bottle and take a little longer and savour it a bit more !

I've just bought a bottle of Croft Platinum Reserve Port, reduced to £6 in Sainsbury's, needed some for cooking and this was the cheapest on the shelf and I have to say it's really rather good.
I opened one yesterday, its not as good as the Trademark when that was £6 but its perfectly drinkable!Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
