And I'm trying a couple of whiskys I received. The Laphroaig I got from my daughter is wonderful. 10 year old smokiness. Yummmmmmmm.
The next one is one I have never heard of, Smokehead Extra Black, from my brother-in-law. 46% of mystery whisky. Tastes like a Laphroaigh, but less smoky and smoother. A nice glassful, but even though it is 18 years old as opposed to the Laphroaighs 10 years, I actually prefer the younger one.
I am drinking these in a 50 plus year old whisky glass of crystal etched with thistles, my parents wedding present whisky glasses. I must take a picture of the beauty of these glasses. I have known them ever since I was a child, and it's nice to use them as an adult. A few of them are blooming because they have been cleaned in a dish washer, which saddens me, but the staff were not to know. I don't think they can be recovered to a bright clear finish once this has happened. Ah well.
The third whisky I am trying tonight is a 21 year old one. It is actually a blend called Royal Salute. Comes in a lovely ceramic green bottle hidden in a green velvet bag. I can remember smuggling these out to my parents in Malaya when I was a child at school in the UK. Cargilfield School in Edinburgh, actually. This is the first time I have had one for myself. The ones for my parents were hidden in my golf bag to get through customs.
Just had a glug of Royal Salute - smooth as silk but still prefer the Laphroaig.

Quick comparison

1. Laphroaig
2. Smokehead Extra Black
3. Royal Salute

We sell Laphroaig at work (a wetherspoons/lloyds!) and it's probably the third most popular one. Only ones that really sell more are white and McKay and Glen moray!

You can recover the bloom from glasses by immersing them in diluted (50/50) white vinegar for a couple of weeks. Its a slow process but highly effective.

Just noticed your post. Apologies. A couple of weeks you say? I'll give it a bash. Thanks.
