The dummy being me.

I've decided we're staying here for xmas, so i'm cooking the turkey.

As there is only 2.5 of us i've only got a crown, it's a decent size so would like to do it well.

Any tips? Do i add veg when roasting to facilitate a gravy later? if so what? Onions, carrots, celery?

Super hot oven for the first 30 mins then drop 50deg or so for the remainder?

What about basting? should i bother?

Foil, should i cover it with foil for the whole time?

Veg you mentioned in the pan is a good idea, don't cut them too small though. I would cook it the other way around. Cover with foil (try to make a tent so foil doesn't contact the skin) and roast with low heat until cooked through, then remove foil and whack the oven up to max heat to brown and crisp up the skin.

I also create pockets between the skin and meat and stuff with herby butter and maybe some diced streaky bacon. Black pepper only on the outside as I tend to make gravy quite flavourful.
