I've been asked to make bubble and squeak and I've never done it before. Is it as simple as roughly cut everything up, bit of oil, salt and pepper and fry off?
What should I serve it with?

your initial description was reasonable, for added taste a healthy sprinkling of Worcestershire sauce is essential.

I roughly chop it, then roughly mash it, leaving plenty of bigger bits in there. I then like to make burger-sized patties and fry them off in vegetable oil with a knob of butter thrown in. Last night I cooked off a dozen in batches of 3 and set aside to be reheated in the oven (15-20 mins tops) later on.
