Just had a baby on NYE and someone gave us a bottle of red as a pressie but here's the thing. Aside from the odd Shiraz I rarely drink anything but Spanish reds, this wine is a Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon/Carmenere, bit rough but I was reading the label and it says "Imported and filled by company x", what does this mean? Have they shipped a container load over and then bottled it in the UK? Doesn't seem right if they have.

Thanks for that, I guess there is nothing wrong with it but I just like to think my wine was bottled where it was grown, guess I have to move with the times.
I wasn't aware it was common practice as I am very limited in my preference for wine and can't say I have noticed this in Spanish reds. I suppose it is a money/profit thing?
Maybe I should try a something different then, anyone got a suggestion for something to replace a Tempranillo good for all occasions, budget is anything from £6 to £10.
Also something to go with a fish stew as I am struggling, the stew is heavy on the Parprika, bordering on Moroccan style. Ta.

2007 Taste the Difference Côtes du Rhône-Villages, Maison M.Chapoutier, France

Sainsbury’s, £5.99 down to £3.99 from March 24 until April 13

2007 was a good rhône vintage, especially in the south, and Chapoutier is one of the top traditional producers here, which explains why this terrific robust, chunky, inky, grenache-based, 14.5 per cent alcohol rhône, enhanced by one quarter syrah, is so good.

2008 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Casa Girelli, Italy

Marks & Spencer, £6.49 down to £4.49 until April 5

Casa Girelli has some tasty ordinary everyday-drinking Italians in its repertoire and this delicious dark, flavoursome, plum and creosote-scented red, made from the montepulciano grape, is one of them.

I'm a big fan of Spanish Red - it's my default choice but have a look at some of the Argentinian Malbecs around at the moment.
