French Onion Soup Starter, what main for a pescatarian?
Discussion
Y'all
I'll be cooking on Monday night (Valentine's) for my wife rather than going out anywhere. She is five months pregnant so getting quite tired early, and frankly most restaurants reduce quality and service yet increase price on Feb 14th.
She loves French Onion Soup so I'm going to try that for a starter. I'm not a great cook, but it seems easy enough.
Any ideas for a main course? She likes fish, so I was thinking of Salmon en Croute? But, it's not really special enough for Valentine's night, it's just a fish pasty really!? We eat a lot of Quorn so I guess I could make something with their chicken or mince if necessary.
So can anyone recommend something easy-ish to make?
Cheers!

Go to a fishmonger, and get some proper fillets of fish. It makes a nice change from salmon.

Mmmmmm some good ideas. Even the fish finger sandwiches one, but I don't have a fryer to do them in
The Papillote one looks nice too, and seems simple.
Fish fingers under the grill is nice, and much healthier.

Why not look at those fish dishes that Jamie Oliver did for the 'fish fight'? There were ten dishes and having tried a couple I can tell you they're pretty good!
Do you have a link, please?I'm also wondering about Salmon & Asparagus Risotto. I've done that before so confident I can do it again.

Why not make your own fish fingers?
Get:
- Fillets of white fish (something quite sturdy like Coley)
- Decent bread
- Pecorino cheese
- Parsley (curley or flat...) (or maybe even some dill if you're feeling saucy)
Toast the bread - cut it into fingers and blitz in a food-processor. Finely chop the parsley, grate some pecorino and combine them all together.
Cut the fish into fingers - dip into a beaten egg and then roll in the bread-crumb mixture.
Shallow fry for a couple of mins on each side - eat. etc.

Mmm, that sounds delicious. So, shallow frying is just using a normal frying pan and a bit of oil?Get:

No idea on the fish but if you are doing French Onion soup follow this recipe from James Martin

I've tried lots of different recipes but this one is the best by far.

Although the beef stock may not go down too well with a pescatarian...http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/frenchonionsoupw...

Cheers all. I think I'm going to go for the Fish Finger sarnies. With some nice bread I think that will be just about acceptable to Mrs A!
