Food High in Protein
Discussion
Dont know if this should go here or in the Health section.
After logging everything that i eat during a normal week, i am having 2 much carbs, and not enough protein. I do want to take any suppliments just want to change my diet to 1 be a bit heathier, and 2 to help with weight loss. But the one thing i am having some difficulty in giving up is my home made artisan bread.
I am looking for recipe ideas which are high in protein and low in Carbs. But a small problem i do not eat Beef/Pork/Lamb. So it will have to be restricted to Fish/Poultry only.
Already have a good home made curry (other half is indian), home made chicken kebabs, traditional roast. Just looking some other ideas to keep the food interesting!

Cheapest form of protein is Whey Protein (Myprotein.co.uk). It works out around 10p per 30g protein - the bigger you buy the cheaper.
http://www.myprotein.com/uk/products/impact_whey_p...
If you do decide to use myprotein for Impact Whey Protein (works out best value for money), feel free to use my referral code MP232599. It also works out cheaper to buy the protein unflavoured and then buy powder milkshake (nesquik or a supermarket's own brand). 1 tsp with each 30g scoop of protein.
I don't recommend this being the sole source of protein, as that wouldn't be healthy.
Tuna is the next best source. Tesco are doing 4 tins of princes (might be john west) for £5.50. This is also BOGOF so you're looking at 8 tins for £5.50, or circa 70p per tin. Each tin of tuna gets you 25-30g protein, which you'd need to consume around 150g of chicken to consume a similar amount (£2 ish).
I mix 2 tins of tuna with 1 tin of chopped tomatoes, 1x tsp chilli powder, pinch of garlic powder, seasoning, mixed herbs - dependant on my carb intake, I may have this with some wholemeal bread or pasta/rice.
Cottage cheese, seeds/nuts, eggs, milk and chicken are also very good sources.

as said, tuna and chicken are about 30% protein. quorn can be a good source of protein too. eating rice+lentils can provide a complete protein meal. you could boost protein content in foods by adding chick peas, or beans (which have around 10%). Cottage cheese has a nice amount of protein too

That sounds really tasty, I might try that.Edited by I Love Lamp on Friday 11th March 10:31
Don't give up the artisan bread- sounds lvely!!
As a rough guide eggs have 6 grms of protein, don't be worried about the colesterol content as dietry colesterol has little to do with the type that clogs arteries etc.
Chicken has roughly 30grms per breast and as said above 30grms per tin of tuna. I personally stay away from tuna as a main source of protein due to mercury. Google is your m8 here.
Fish steak has roughly 22grms of protein per 100grms of flesh. Cod is the daddy. Spinach has 6grms per cooked cup & cottage cheese a good quality low fat source of protein. Pumpkin seeds also, 1/4 cup is about 16 grms of protein.
That's what I'm going through ATM, chicken, eggs, cottage cheese, pumpkn seeds, cod or any other white fish I can get my hands on.
Very interested in what game meats can offer, also the unknowns (to me!) osterich, crocodile, crickets & other bugs etc etc. Tried some in Thailand and they were pretty nice! Bit ot appologies!

OP. I've lost 1st 2lbs in 4 weeks eating this;
7am. Wholemeal bagel, 6 scrambled eggs (3 whole 3 whites)
10am. Protein shake, cashew nuts
1pm. Chicken strips
3:30pm. Gym, protein shake.
6pm. Steak or chicken with veg.
10pm. Protein shake, flax seed oil, fish oil.
I read a book called 'syndrome x' which is all about not eating processed carbs and sugar, and how the human body doesn't actually need these types of carbs. Good read, can't recommend it enough.
You might get a better response over in health matters than in here btw.

That's excellent! And quite appealing doesn't seem like having to starve yourself. 7am. Wholemeal bagel, 6 scrambled eggs (3 whole 3 whites)
