Selling fine wine

I am quite keen to sell a bottle of Chateau Latour 1982. The others I will probably drink when the fancy takes me!
It is usually quite difficult to sell single bottles especially when past storage is questionable. Unless this has been sympathetically cellared, I can't imagine too many would take a punt.

Depends how much they want the wine I guess, and I'm sure a case would be easier to sell. I was told because it is one of the very few wines to get a perfect Parker score of 100 it would be easy to sell...but who knows.Edited by leothetiler on Wednesday 13th April 21:11
Storage is definitely an issue.....looks like Latour 82 goes for £1200 a bottle with a merchant so it's auction value will or should be less than that as they obviously have margin. Then there is the question of provenance/storage ?
I'd try this site www.bidforwine.co.uk

It's not the case vs bottle issue - it's how it was stored. There are still plenty of single bottles of this out there and given the choice of one perfectly cellared or one from someones cupboard at home, I know which would get my moneyEdited by leothetiler on Wednesday 13th April 21:11

1982 Château Latour is an excellent wine, however, as noted above, unless it's been stored well, it will be hard to sell at its full value. Most of the big wine trades are all in bond, it's owners not taking possession.
Maybe talk to Berry Brothers, they would have a view.
82 Latour is something of an iconic wine, but no way Berrys (or indeed any of the other large merchants/brokers) would touch it unless provenance is spot on (which with a single bottle from an unknown seller they're going to be really hard pressed to convince themselves of) - auction/bidforwine is probably the only way. There is a chance that you'd get reasonable money for it if the Chinese are out in force, but UK buyers are much more circumspect.Maybe talk to Berry Brothers, they would have a view.
Another option is to look at some of the wine forums and see if you get a bite that way... but expect the same level of cynicism as you'd get here turning up and posting a 250 GTO for sale (no warranty, no inspection). If you try it, quote the bottle level (i.e. how full it is) based on this: http://www.wine-searcher.com/fill-level.lml when you're speaking to people - one of the indicators people tend to look for but be prepared to be very flexible on price (and don't start out expecting £1500+ for it!)
100 Parker points does increase demand/price - but there are quite a few out there that have it (he's been getting more generous in his old age!).
Personally, if I were you, I'd drink it!

I have a few decent bottles of wine gathering dust, and one in particular that I am never likely to drink, and am considering selling.
Does anyone know of a good way to advertise/sell wine where you will get a fair price for it?
If you take it to LM this year I'll come along. There's a good storage cubby in the Vette that would keep it warm.Does anyone know of a good way to advertise/sell wine where you will get a fair price for it?

P.S you never before disclosed you had good wine to offer, seem to remember you showed up with something Tescos Chile collection last time I saw you.
I believe the auction house you refer to is Straker Chadwick. They may accept odd btls. The trouble is most of the major auction houses have a minimum lot value of around £1000+ and rarely take single bottles for sale unless very valuable.
Re Latour 82. Trading at around £1250-1400 in the market currently depending on condition. Again, auction houses prob would not accept 1 btl for sale.
Very nice btl BTW
