Hi all, just found an unopened bottle in cupboard, don't know how old, just tried a sip, bit like a horrid sherry/port.

I don't have any mixers in the house, can i just drink it neat, it,s only
16% vol.

Cheers.

It forms the basis for a Kir (and it's variants). A good way to make a mediocre fizz palatable.

Cassis is part of a class of spirits known as "Creme de" which is actually a French legal description. Creme de Cassis must contain at least 400g / litre of sugar (!).

its very sweet stuff, best kept for cocktails - although depending on how many years old it is, it can go a bit wierd after a while.

Grenadine must run it pretty close! I sometimes put a few drops in G&T.

A worthwhile creme de cassis should be 20% ABV, and consist of blackcurrants, sugar, water, and nothing else.

16%, 20% Mmm i'll just have to drink more, lol.

400g sugar per ltr, this seem more like 4000g per ltr.

It's all written in then funny french words, with squirrelly comas over the
letter 'E' 'e'

Ingredients, Sucre, Cassis, Alcool, Eau, Substances vegetales.
(Maceration de baies de Cassis dans I'alcool.

Alcool is that! lol.

Vaguely on topic, but if you can find some Creme de Chataigne (Sweet chestnut) then try some in fizz for a festive alternative to Kir Royale smile

Try Chambord in a nice orb shaped bottle in anything white and fizzy.
