That's the issue. It's a retirement present for a bloke at work. All I know is that he loves whiskey. Not much help I know.

Slightly off topic....Can I have your username please?? I am a Shaw and rather vertically challenged so it would be perfect for me yes

Don't know if its still available because it was marketed as a 'special edition' but I bought quite a few bottles of Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix at Xmas. Around the 50quid mark and made a nice gift I thought.

Check out the Glenfiddich website to see if its still available.

whisky - if you are referring to the elixir of life that is distilled by angels throughout the more vertical portions of Caledonia.

If you are speaking of corn based "squeezins" from the dry portions of Tennessee made by men with few teeth (and dreadful taste in clothing - especially hats) then you may have your "e" back.

Oh and, if the former, Macallan make good stuff.

Mortlach 16 years old about £45 a bottle
Blackadder Raw Cask Tomatin Distillery 17 years old £51 (I think I paid) - very good, very old school whisky
Lagavulin - whatever the oldest one they make for £50 is

If the person this is for likes Macallan, then the Mortlach will probably be right up their street!

What about Jameson's Irish Whiskey (with an e) not as expensive as your budget allows so you could buy a bigger bottle , it's triple distilled and has a nice smooth flavour , it's my personal favourite and I've tried plenty from £10 bottle to in excess of £10 per shot

Talisker? Everyone likes Talisker, even those who don't like whisky generally...

Ballintine's 21 year old. It's one of the nicest drops I've had in recent years. Bit of a stretch to get it for £50 unless you know someone who can pick it up tax free, and yes it's a blend, but by 'eck it's tasty.

Very, very good and all the right "whisky credentials": crafted, single barrel, small batch distilled etc. Very tasty too though.

Waitrose have the Distillers Edition available usually at under £50 - nobody gets close on price.

For something different - and I know it blows the budget by £20 - Royal Mile have a St Georges Royal Wedding special bottle. Topical this week.

If only my student loan covered more than my rent............ But then Waitrose usually sells Pol Roger, and Pol is lethal to my bank account.
