I must have tried them all but I've yet to find a nann bread in a supermarket that in any way resembles a naan in an Indian restaurant. I particularly like Pershwari naan but those sold in the shops are more like a paratha.

Can you buy a decent Peshawari naan to eat with a home cooked curry? scratchchin

Oh dear, it's not just me then. Not even one you can cook in an oven or dare I say it on a BBQ?

I'd go with the Waitrose ones, but even then that's just on the basis they're probably the best of a bad bunch.

I make them, it's very easy. This recipe works well, I make a big batch of dough and freeze the balls and take them out the morning I use them.

Chucking a naan on the BBQ is the best thing you can do to make it taste better. Get everything else off and ready to serve, get the coals hot and put it right above but keep an eye on it as it burns easily.

I used a pizza stone on the bbq to make naan a few weeks back, it took up half of the grill. Put the naan down on there once it had heated up, an once one side was cooked I flipped it over onto the grill and cooked the other side on the coals. Worked quite well and tasted rather nice with a bit of butter on top

Try frozen parathas instead from Asian supermarkets. They are better than the ones in most restaurants.

You're right the circular Peshwari ones aren't the best - I do find the larger plain Naans rather good though.

4 mains
4 sides

and freeze them.

We send the boys out to the local takeaway via the pub while me and my best mate get on with downing wine in the kitchen and cooking. Works well for all concerned.

scratchchin not a bad idea, hadn't thought of freezing the naans. I guess you then simply thaw them and re-heat using your chosen method. Oven/grill/BBQ etc...

I think sir, you may have cracked my dilema. I'll order an extra one or two when I get a take-away then I'll have some for when my wife cooks curry from scratch smile
