A very good friend is 50 in a couple of weeks and I'd like to buy him a decent brandy. I can't stand the stuff and have no idea what he might really appreciate so would welcome your suggestions please. Budget is £40 - £50.

Remy Martin VSOP as your budget won't stretch to XO.

An XO Armagnac will only stretch his budget slightly and makes an interesting alternative.

Remy Martin VSOP was at the top of my list; to be honest it was all that was on my list so that's what it'll be - thanks.

Tesco's own label XO is far better than Remy Martin VSOP. Smoother and deeper taste,

And you save £20. You have to look past the label though.

Thanks, I'll check that out too; we've a sizeable Tesco a stone's throw away (Chesterfield). I've also found your "Cognac and Brandy drinking from a new boy at this game" thread which is very informative.

Hope it helps, most of them are under your price bracket though.

I'm actually drinking 3 barrels tonight which is really bottom feeding, it is ok though.

Shame you are not looking for a whisky, Lefty could have recommended a really good one of those within 20 seconds no doubt.

Cardhu is my whisky of choice, slips down a treat. Will be cruising the aisles in Tesco later today - good health!
