I think it is time for me and the sub bass to part ways, however it has been a few years since I have been active in any sort of band/ recording etc.

So to cut to the chase where is the best place to sell a musical instrument nowardays, this is not a for sale ad.

Cheers

ebay, collect only? I've sold quite a bit of musical gear by that method.

Sell to a guitar shop?

Absolutely, in the 5 years I've been on eBay I've sold a dozen guitars plus enough parts to make several more. Fender types can be sent via post/carrier (UK only, I never send abroad), all others I specify buyer collects. Never had any problems.

Music dealers would prefer you to part-exchange for new gear; if they buy it you only get a fraction of what it's worth. I have an arrangement with a local one whereby he hangs it in the shop and if it sells takes a commission.

eBay for sure! Bassist seem more inclined to search for instruments than guitarist I believe.

Sold a G&L L2500 on eBay and had about 10 people biting at the bit for it, all were dead keen bassist after one. I've found additional incentives like a hardcase mark your ad above other that just sell the guitar in a box.

There's also a number of bass forums that doing trading for free, Talkbass was the US one with a huge following.
