If I had £500 to burn what would be the best bang-for-buck guitar available?

Acoustic or electric. New or used. I have a preference for Gibson-like stuff.

Cheers

Secondhand early Patrick Eggle Berlin Pro. Fantastic hand made guitar, slightly smaller but simular shape to the PRS. British built.
If you want larger, the Patrick Eggle Vienna, although harder to find.

A secondhand Levinson Blade R4 or RH4. You can't go wrong!

I guess it depends on what you want out of it, but I have a Gibson Les Paul Junior and I love it. You should get a used one for £500, mine was only £600 brand new...

I managed to get hold of a Yamaha sg1000 for £550 last year, best guitar i've ever had and i've had all the guitars listed here.Think of a Les Paul standard but with a lot more versatility then you're half way there. In my opinion one of the most underrated guitars ever made!

I tried a fair few at that price point and bought an Ibanez S670FM. Beautiful guitar and waaaails!

Trying as many as possible is definitely the way forward. I tried quite a few and ended up with the one I wanted least of the ones I asked to try. I got a fender strat highway 1... played miles better than the other stuff I tried. Really happy with it nearly three years down the line.

I have a 1964 Levin Goliath Acoustic which outperforms any Acoustic Gibson I have ever played and most Martins I have played. These Levis fetch around £500

My experience of Electric Guitars at this price is a secondhand Ibenez takes some beating.

But I suggest looking around you may find an Armstrong on similar about prices are very weak at the moment.

Here's another guitar i stumbled across about 10 years ago and i've never heard such a beautiful, clean, glassy tone from a guitar, see when you hear the oldest, fullest clean Strat sound, this guitar does it fantastically, rare guitar but a hard to find unknown gem!Non Italian name of these is a Starfield Altair custom made by Ibanez.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHITARRA-STARFIELD-CUSTOM-IBANEZ-2000-ACERO-CUSTODIA-/390320694451?pt=Chitarre_Elettriche&hash=item5ae0ed24b3
