Live music has changed
Discussion
Went to see Brandon Flowers at the Eden Sessions last night, he was fantastic & The Eden Project is a great venue. The main event was spoiled to a degree by the selfish over use of cameras by the (mainly) teenage girls in front of us, we were stood very close to the front so I'm only guessing people further back saw very little of the stage through the sea of cameras.
Now I understand people want to take pictures & video of an event but surely you have some consideration for the people behind & around you? I was tempted to ask her to email me her footage as I didn't get to see it live!

I really get pissed off with this. I see a lot of bands live and it's getting worse. Went to see the black crowes the other night and was told by someone to stop jumping around because they were trying to film. This was 3 rows from the front. He ended up with beer down him (accidentally, and not from me). I laughed.
Cant remember which band it was, but one asked their audience to turn off their mobiles because "they wanted the crowd to be in the moment and enjoy the music, not be there to film a bad copy." and went on to say that if they wanted to see a version on their computer there were much better versions available.
I agree completely, live music is there to get lost in, not to record to take away with you. There are studio mixes and professionally filmed live events if thats what you want - but that said I still watch crappy phone videos of concerts I went to 4 or 5 years ago. Just for a few minuets to put me back where I was at the time.

I heard Myles Kennedy say this at an Alter Bridge gig.i think there are some people who attach a certain degree of kudos from being the first to upload footage of a gig onto youtube. no worse than all those bloody flags at festivals though, who wants to watch coldplay with a skull and crossbones (very original) waved infront of the stage every three seconds......actually....thats a bad example

Not only the bloody cameras (which really piss's me off as I want to see the band not the little screens held up) but the attitude of venue security/policy has become s
te too. At the MEN for the RUSH- Time Machine Tour only the front row were allowed to stand against the stage. We were on the fifth row and as they came on, myself and a mate went to the front to be asked 'Where's your wristband?, Get back to your seat'
This killed the expected atmosphere as they just leant against the boarding motionless.
Plus they will not let anyone outside for a smoke during the interval.

suppose this is a health and safety enforcement

I was at Eden Project for Brandon Flowers too! I didn't think the cameras were too bad, although we were about 20 feet back from the stage and the standing area was sloped so you got a good view from further back. Amazing venue though.
But generally yes, it is f
king annoying. At the Radio One Big Weekender it was like watching a gig through the cameraphone of the t
t in front of you.

If I want a couple of photos, I'll just get a quick few and make sure I just enjoy the gig, chances are the photos will be crap anyway!
