no sleep til...Maiden!

Going to see them on the 6th with a few friends, one of whom has never seen them. Will be interesting to see what he thinks. Think Trivium are support, but to be honest I wouldn't watch them if they were playing live in my kitchen, so I guess I'll be at the bar for that. Only decent support I've ever seen with Maiden was Anthrax back in 1990. Even Slayer were hugely underwhelming. Still, could be worse...Funeral for a Friend anyone?
Does beg the question of what constitutes a decent support act these days? Maybe I'm just turning into my Dad, but having sat through tedium like Avenged Sevenfold in the past, I really can't think of many newer generation bands who have an appeal? Everything seems to be either faux shouty "grrr, look at me, I'm angry and metal yet somehow still cleancut enough for Kerrang TV and college radio" or power metal w

its a tricky one tbh - maiden are so self assured thath they can give any support act a fair crack at the lights and sound so the support shoul dbe pretty good.
the local irish rock group that supported maiden in dublin last time were excellent, but they were local and known and did a few thin lizzy covers - happy days.
the last support act that rocked me were skid row supporting guns and roses c. 2006 sheffield. seb bach totally rocked and they did an effin superb set...
bullet for my valentine were pathetic.
gnr were amazing btw...
I reckon with the "reunion" type tours going on these days the likes of whitesnake, free etc would be good enough.
I reckon the lepps are still too big to support maiden though...

WASP would be good on paper, but I have my doubts Blackie can pull it off on anything other than a club scale these days. Shame, as I still love them, but I don't think they'd work in a big venue now. Maybe it's just a sign of how metal has changed? It's still hugely popular, but it seems there are more medium level bands these days, rather than a few huge names. Where's the next Big Four, for example? The likes of Korn, Linkin Park, Slipknot and SOAD are veterans these days and I can't see where the next bands of that size are coming from? Sepultura are a shadow of their former selves, Anthrax are their own tribute act and Slayer haven't done anything interesting for about 20 years! Everything seems geared to a niche crowd and a set at whatever festival these days. Guess it'll just have to be Lawnmower Deth then I think we've got airborne next sunday - any views?

2006? are you sure? Bach hasn't been in Skid Row for a long time. You sure it just wasn't Seb Bach and his new band? Either way, skid row were awesome in the day!
