I've been learning this for the past day or two. I'm really stuck on this bit:

|-8-7-5-------5-----|-----5------5-----5-|-8-7-5-------5-----|
|-5-5-5-8-(8)-5---7-|-(7)-7-7----7--7--5-|-5-5-5-8-(8)-5---7-|
|-5-5-5-5-(5)-5---7-|-(7)-7-7----7--7--5-|-5-5-5-5-(5)-5---7-|
|-------5-(5)-----7-|-(7)---7-------7----|-------5-(5)-----7-|
|----------7--------|--5------5-(5)------|----------7--------|
|-5-------------5---|--------------------|-5-------------5---|
H Q Q Q. E +Q. E H Q Q

+E Q E E E E E E E E E +E Q E +E E E E Q E E
|---------5---------5-|-8-7-5-------5-----|-------8-5------5--3-|
|-(7)-8---7--8----5---|-5-5-5-8-(8)-5---7-|-(7)---7-7-8----7--3-|
|-(7)-7---7--7--5-----|-5-5-5-5-(5)-5---7-|-(7)-7-7-7-7----7--4-|
|-(7)-7------7--------|-------5-(5)-----7-|-(7)-------7---------|
|--5----5---(5)-------|----------7--------|--5----------5-(5)---|
|---------------------|-5-------------5---|---------------------|
Q Q +E E Q H Q Q H E E +E

I've made it easier by transforming it into some single notes, and I can get the higher string bits, is just the bass notes that I really struggle with.

Also, the tab is very fking confusing. I fking hate tabs like this. Anybody got any advice for nailing this section apart from practice? I've got it all spot on up to this bd of a section.

Also, tab came out messy on PH but you get the idea.

If you're on about the Mason Williams version, then that part doesn't look familiar to me (although it's been a while since I played CG).

Best (i.e. quickest) bet is to try guitar pro/powertab software where you can slow down the song, and also check how others play on youtube... might even be some lessons there. Good luck, it's a great song to play smile.

If it is the Mason Williams, then using your ears is best. (For anything actually). The harder it is to learn, the more you'll learn, learning it - you'll need to engage other bits of ya' brain rather than just *copy type* by reading tab smile

Tab has it's place, but much better to find it through your ears and revert to tab if you get really stuck. All IMHO of course.

I learnt all of it up to the ascending section by ear. It was quite easy to do as it's Am (I think) but couldn't find the notes for this bit. I have a look at the tab and I'm greeted by this monstrosity. Horrible tab but best one I can find.

Good man. Glad to hear it. What I did when I got to something I couldn't work out, was write someting myself that I thought sounded as good or better. (i.e. fudge it) Been doing it ever since as a job.

Nobody has ever noticed (yet). wink

Good luck.

Stealing my tactics I see. I do that with Sweet Child 'O Mine, really struggle with the fast alternate picking in the solo, so just go off on one and do loads of crazy improvised stuff. Learnt the song a couple of weeks ago, play the solo different every time. Of course I play the bits I know but the bits I can't do I just improvise, I think this is the way to go.

I will try and get some recordings done of some of my stuff, very difficult though because even with Logic Pro I still struggle to get good sounds (this is mainly down to my equipment).
