OK, about a thousand options here... but how do you set up your outboard effects for live, recording, rehersal etc

Pratice:
Guitar - effects unit - desk
Vocal - desk - effects unit
All to headphones

Recording:
guitar - effects - miked up amp
vocal - DI (monitor as above)

Live:
Dunno hehe
I've seen people bring in their own mini rack and just plug into a single stereo in the house PA
But I'd have thought it would be better to utilise as many separate channels as possible confused

If you use a specific bit of kit would you like to link that in before the desk, or use the desk effects loop

does any of that make sense ?

When i was doing live sound the effects route went like this:

Instrument > Effects > Amp > SM57 >------> Mixer - Master Out EQ - Power Amp - Front of house

Vocals > SM58 >-------> Mixer - Plugin (Comp, limiter, rack effects) - Master Out EQ - Power Amp - Front of house

Monitor feeds were taken as a pre-fader out and controlled off of four Aux sends to two stereo amps, supplying 4 monitors = four different monitor sends. These each has there own EQ for 'ringing out the monitors' and reducing room feedback.

Probably too much info on there, but something to get your teeth into. All venues are different though...

Thanks Andy,

That's kind of what I was getting to, running an outboard reverb unit but sending a combination of pre and post eq to it. Just wondered if there was some sort of industry standard

I guess if it sound OK it must be OK hehe
