Help an old fart's library

OK I am well into middle age.

I have an iPod and an iTunes account.

I want to build a library but I'm not sure where to start.

Can you recommend bands, albums or tracks please?

This is the kind of thing I like:

Babylon by David Gray

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol

Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve

Handbags and the Gladrags by Stereophonics

I would like more stuff like that but I never know what to type into the iTunes search facility.

Have a look on amazon and use their recommendations system and see what that throws up.

As someone else said sign up to last.fm

If you can still get spotify accounts for free sign up there too so you can listen to stuff before purchasing.
Use youtube to find tracks as well.

BTW what is middle aged? At 39, should I replace trance, funky house, metal and drum n bass with the bands mentioned above?

If you like the verve why not try there earlier stuff, storm in heaven and northern soul are a mile apart in comparison (for the better). Bit less mainstream and anthem like but songs like history, on your own etc are amazing.

I'd reccommend, Paulo Nutini, James Blunt, perhaps get risky with Stereophonics, but that might be a bit too heavy :P
