Ok im expecting a bit of a hammering for pluging an album from a guy that was in busted BUT..........his new solo album really shows his abilty as a singer/songwriter.

I really enjoyed his fightstar project and it was a shame that thats come to an end but its clear his new avenue is something the guys could not go down together.

Before writing it off completely give it a go. You never know!!!!!

No, Charlie Simpson is a genuine talent and if people can't look beyond Busted, it's their loss. Fightstar were a great band and from what I've heard of his solo stuff (as the OP says, not Fightstar material) I like it a lot.

I still think he's a total udder though. I'd probably like his stuff but I just cant listen to a whole song of his. I know he's good etc but I don't know why, I just can't stand him.

Him and Hugh jackman, don't like him either.

I dont understand. You state you will probably like it but refuse to listen to it without valid reason? Just seems to be cutting your nose off to spite your face because of who people perceive him to be.
Yeah he sold himself out a fair bit to make money with busted but he had the nads to say i cant take this anymore and tried to be a genuine artist.

I know hehe It's nothing to do with the busted thing either. Just can't listen for some reason! Irrational hatred, definetly. Nothing against him though hehe

I know there's nothing wrong with him. He's a good(great?) musician. Done well etc.

I just can't stand him, can't explain why! Sorry to take thread off topic OP.

I got the album the day it came out, after hearing and loving Parachutes.

It's a fantastic album, by a talented artist. I really couldn't give a flying fk what he did previously, or what people think of my taste in music.

If you like it, buy it smile

And how, pray tell, can you not like Wolverine FFS? wink

I'm probably gonna lose a lot of man points, but I kinda got into Busted a bit. If you look past the semi-childish themes, a lot of their song writing skills are actually pretty good. On their last album 'A Present for Everyone' - they let Charlie have free reign on a song, and the result stands out quite a bit on the album, it's called 'Why' and has quite a bit of a Fightstar feeling about it.

If you're after more artist that are a bit like Charlie Simpson, check out a demo album produced about 4-5 years ago called The Suffolk Explosion. Had A LOT of talented artist on it that seem to have gone unnoticed by the mainstream. One band on there called Brigade write some quality off beat music.

Just bought this album a few days ago. Parachutes has to be one of my all time favourite songs. Really surprised me how good he is if I'm brutally honest. Hoping for some more solo stuff from him smile

I quite like Parachutes. Paint your target was a decent track as well. However all the Busted songs were complete and utter tripe. Simpson seems pretty talented, decent voice as well.

Personally, I thought Fightstar were brilliant. They were meant to be the first band I ever saw until the parents put their foot down after finding out the plans for the day frown (I think I was 12?). Great voice and a lot of talent.

Just heard it - not bad, but pretty standard IMO.

I know it's not an outstanding song, but the lyrics reflect well on where my life was going a few years ago
