Rap - When is it going to end ?

I'm not a fan; love music, but accept each to their own.
Rap seems to have been around for about 20+ years and the latest
stuff is just so dull. Where is the genre going ? There does not seem
to have been any development in the music for years and
frankly I've seen and heard enough of 'dese rappers bleating about their 'hoods, babes
and burberry.
Who's buying this ste ?

Get away from mainstream, check out the new People Under The Stairs LP, decent hip hop is out there, most of the durge on MTV doesn't qualify...

Hopefully before Stryder, Wretch32 and any of the rest of "da crew" get into the studio and murder "Teardrop"....but I don't hold out much hope

I'm young, 21.. So have grown up with Lil Wayne/Kanye West etc, and find them very good. Though I'm sure you older lot find them terrible.

Thats the problem with rap today (if you can still class it as such). I was really into hip-hop/rap back in the 90's but I got sick of the whole scene that was evolving and started listening to rock/metal more.

Come back Chuck D, we need you back on the mic to show them how its done!

Let's not be confusing Rap with Hip Hop, people!

There's a whole world of intelligent, exciting, beautiful, astonishingly dexterous music and spoken word stuff out there right now that's just as captivating as the early years and not a vile chrome 22" rim in sight. Take it away www.buck65.com ...

Yup, Hip hop was just the latest "black culture" thing out of America. Started with Jazz, then Blues, then Soul, then Disco, and then Hip Hop, all of which followed one after another and sort of blended in at the edges.

Once they get out into the mainstream they tend to get a bit twisted away from what they originally were to satisfy the masses. The good stuff is still there to be found; wind all the way back to the Sugarhill Gang and it's still as fresh as an 18 year old Will Smith's haircut.

aaahhhh....then your first post should have been along the lines of "when is rap as a genre going to go full circle and retrospectively start producing 70's party music again??"

i admit theres alot of garbage rap nowadays-but theres also aload of other genres that keep producing repetative crap - pop, indie etc.

however, recent excellent hip hop albums include:

kanye west: my beautiful dark twisted fantasy
88 keys- the death of adam
the roots - how i got over
jay z, kanye west - watch the throne

going to have to disagree, Kanye west has never produced anything good. and the last thing jay z did that was decent was Hard Knock life.
